23 February 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 23rd [February 1908]. Went off at 9.30 to the Marlboro’ Hse Chapel R. service at ¼ to 10. The Prince & Pss of Wales were there. Home by 10.30. Blanche looked in to see me just before lunch. Monty came to see me at tea time to hear abt my visit to Canford. The Eddie Eliots came to call. I went to dine with Sir Wm & Lady Humphrey to meet HRH the Landgraf of Hesse & sat next him at dinner & had his ADC on my left. There were also there Sir Squire & Lady Bancroft, Sir C. Wyndham, Mary Moore (Mrs Alfred), Mr John Fraser, Mrs Arkwright, Mr & Mrs Fuller Maitland, Lady Braybrooke. In the evening there was music a Miss Motts on the violin & Mrs J. Fraser arrived from singing elsewhere & sang English songs from The Mikado &c—a loud voice not very refined with execution. The Landgraf is nearly blind & had to have every one brought up to him & named to him. He is musical & even plays the violin I believe. He left at 11—& we all directly after went off.
