Wednesday. 25th [March 1908]. Stayed in bed till lunch at 12. Olga’s sister Pss Labanoff came to see me. Lunched with Sir Edwin & Miss Everitt. Did not go out. Mrs Curtis came to see me. She & Mr C., are in their apartment in the Piazza di Spagna for the winter. Then came Sophy Franqueville & we had tea together in the sitting room & a long chatter over many things. She & her husband are in Rome for a fortnight. Just as she was leaving Elsie Cassis came & stayed till 7. Lady Carnarvon & her son who is one of the secretaries here & her niece Miss Howard dined here also Mr & Mrs Akers Douglas & Mr & Mrs Erskine also of the Embassy staff. We heard today of the death at Cannes of the Duke of Devonshire.
