26 March 1908 — Rome
Thursday. 26th [March 1908]. Washed my hair which took up most of the morning. Lunch with Sir Edwin Egerton & Miss Everitt at 12.30 after wh Sir E. hurried off to the station to meet Lady Egerton who arrived from Cannes. Donna Laura Minghetti came to see me at 2—as bright, affectionate & attractive as ever & she sat sometime with me—said she is going shortly to Venice with her daughter & P. Bülow & when they have she promises to pay me a visit at Ca’ Capello. She saw Olga Egerton just as she was leaving the house. At 3 I went out driving with Olga & at 4 dropped her at a concert she had to attend. I went to write my name on the Queen Mother & then was brought home & had tea with Princess Tofka & took also a turn in the garden. It was a lovely sunny day & the tulips & hyacinths were out beautifully. Marchese & Mara Cassis dined here also Lord Durham & his sister Lady Anne Lambton besides the Russian ’cellist Barjansky who played to us in the evening. He has wonderful execution but I think is wanting in tone– Sophy came to see me between tea & dinner time.
