16 April 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. [16th April 1908]. Went to morning service at 10.30. On my return had hard work putting the drawing rooms in order & arrangg flowers so as to be ready when Lord & Lady Brassey came. Also had Mr & Mrs Robert Benson & Clara Montalba & her brother. Lord Brassey is very much aged—speaks slowly & does not always get to the end of his sentences. However he spoke much of Henry & Constantinople & his visit there in the Sunbeam wh of course I remember well—& I remember that his first wife who was always rather peculiar wore a dress adorned with birds’ nests! when she dined with us. He invited us to tea on board the Sunbeam next Sunday. After they were all gone I went to pay a long visit to Baroness Reinelt & from there to the Edens coming home abt 6.
