28 May 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 28th [May 1908]. Ascension Day. Went to morning service with Ola & Aline. While we were at dinner Mlle de Perpignan came to see me. She had arrived this afternoon bringing with her two Miss Birds American girls whom she was chaperoning. Georgy de P. had been Superintendent Governess of the children of the Empress Frederick. Lately she has been to America to lecture on the life of the Empress & in Boston made acquaintance with these 2 girls & undertook to bring them to Europe. She has always a great charm of manner & is amusing—& we had been friends for many years. It is a great pleasure to have her here. I have engaged rooms for her at the Calcina.
