29 May 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 29th [May 1908]. Typed all morning. Canon Ragg came to see me after lunch to discuss an offer he has had of the chaplaincy of the Church at Constantinople (Memorial Ch.) I was sorry to find that he thinks he ought to move from here for Mrs Ragg’s sake—as she is not happy here. At 4 I went off with Sir Arthur Fanshawe to the Calcina to join the party of Perpigna-Bird. I found 2 very nice looking girls—not very American in accent & easily pleased with everything. We went to the Eden’s garden. The roses are nearly over as here their blooms last a short time—but the garden is lovely. Met there Mrs Blane & her daughter Mrs Sebright—a nice looking young woman who had made an unhappy marriage & divorced her husband after a few days. She & the Birds made friends & while they were amusing each other I took Georgie to see the hospital. Miss Violet Milman is in command there during the holiday of Sister Chaffey. We returned to the Eden’s garden to collect our force & Sir Arthur & I returned home.
