27 June 1908 — 17 Cavendish Square
Saturday. 27th [June 1908]. I had promised to go to stay at Canford today & telephoned last evening to Cornelia who is staying at Templeton & ask what train I should go by. She said 2.10 from Waterloo. Last evening Sir John Craggs came to see me to report on the new Glass Co (Venezia Murano) he is still trying to arrange. He also wanted explanations as to the Hospital Balance sheet & brought a clerk with him to go thro’ it with me. Blanche & I went out shopping in the morning. Onie came to see me. I lunched early with Vere who was leaving town & I went off in the electric brougham directly after to Waterloo station & left for Wimborne at 2.10. Weather still hot. Found no carriage to meet me but luckily the car had been sent in to fetch Cornelia’s made so it conveyed me & Baker to Canford first. Miss Green was there & gave me tea. She left for her own home at Upton directly after. I found Ivor sitting on the terrace with his nurse & I walked with him & sat in the tent with him & he seemed almost himself whistled & sang & was cheery. He told me that Kate had been staying with him & that “Cornelia had taken herself off to a place called Templeton.” Abt 8 Cornelia arrived with her son Oscar by motor from Roehampton & I left them sitting out together on the terrace & saw him no more as he went up to bed abt 7.30. It was very hot & we walked on the terrace at night.
