20 September 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 20th [September 1908]. The great national fête day of the Independence of Italy. Went to morning service & feeling rather feverish I rested in the afternoon till tea after when we went out for a row in gondola. I got out at the Hotel d’Europa & paid Canon Ragg a visit. He was still in bed tho’ better. Received a telegram from Angela Reinelt from Sistiana to beg me to go tomorrow to see her there. After much inward debate on account of the fatigue of such a long day I decided to go. Mr Farrer came to dine & took his cousins out in my gondola after dinner to the Piazza to hear the music & see what was going on. Having to get up early tomorrow I went early to bed.
