29 September 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 29th [September 1908]. Mr Zuccato came to call in the morning & we arranged a committee meeting tomorrow at the Sailor’s Institute at 2. I also had a telephone message from Mme Pezzè asking to have a Blue X committee meeting here tomorrow at 11– I typed a letter for the Canon. Had a visit from 2 pretty little Australian girls Miss Collins introduced to me by Fannie Chelmsford. They were nice little gentle things & I am sorry they leave Venice today. At 3 went out in gondola with the Canon to the Piazza where I left him to return in gondola whilst I went on foot & passing thro’ the Piazza Squellini I saw 2 wooden stools wh I asked Della Torre to buy for me. He telephoned later to say that he had got me them for 20 lire. Home by 5—after tea wrote letters—one to Sir Edwin Egerton who wrote to me on his way back to Rome. He goes there for the last time as Ambassador & in Decr is to be succeeded by Rennell Rodd. The Canon & I dined at 7.30. Evening reception to wh came Lady Blane, Miss Reilly & her niece Lady Winifred Gore—a rather pretty dark girl of 17 with a lively & excitable manner. Olga Mocenigo & her sister Adini & Mr & Mrs Hillman came & they stayed chatting till 12.
