4 October 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 4th [October 1908]. Me Guiccioli went to Vicenza for the day. She remained here. I went to morning service. It was extraordinarily hot weather & the sun quite burning—as tho’ we were in August. There are accounts of great heat also in England. We have been having cloudless days for some time. There are lots of English in Venice & every day people bring me letters of introduction. Today a young Sir Coleridge Kennard & a Mr Vyvyan Wilde came to tea & Mrs Sackville West & Lady Winifred Gore came to see me. I also expected a Mr & Mrs Edmund Vicars who did not turn up. The Canon dined early & went to do the service at the Sailor’s Institute.
