15 October 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 15th [October 1908]. The Connaught party settled to leave Venice at 10.30 but they had not seen the spiral staircase near Piazza Manin so we rushed off to see it & soon came back. The servants & luggage had all gone already & on our return home the beautiful blue launch of the Aboukir was waiting to carry off my guests & they soon embarked & glided away down the Grand Canal waving adieus till the bend of the canal took them out of sight. The house seemed strange & empty after the party was gone—14 in all with their various servants—but the last 4 days had been ones of hurry & bustle– My servants behaved splendidly & the cook Sear was a splendid help. All enjoyed themselves hugely.
