3 December 1908 — Rome | |
Thursday. 3rd [December 1908]. I was glad to have a better account of Sir Edwin when I walked round to the Embassy this morning—less fever & the swelling less– Olga took a little drive with me to the Anglo American Home before lunch. I lunched with her & Miss Everitt– The chef has left & most of the servants & they are all here en picnic– The Rodds are expected on Saty & the Egertons are in an awkward position—but Sir Edwin is too ill to travel. In the evening I went to dine with Mr Whitaker at the Excelsior Hotel & dined also with Mr & Mrs Tiny Whitaker & their 2 girls. The hotel is of the worst taste—a band played during dinner & the company was more than doubtful. | |
