4 December 1908 — Rome | |
Friday. 4th [December 1908]. Went round early to the Embassy & found Sir Edwin much better & in fact out of danger. Sat in the small sitting room working while Olga came & went. Drove out after lunching at the Embassy with Olga, Miss Everitt & Mr Whitaker with him & Olga & we shopped & came back early. Olga & I dined with Mr Wyndham (1st secy) in his rooms in the Embassy & then I went back early to Via Gaeta. Mr Marvyn Herbert also dined with Mr Wyndham. Herbert had just come in from a shooting expedition over which he was very enthusiastic. I was sorry to leave the Egertons knowing I should never more see them at Rome. The Govt had made him resign in a cruel way & named Sir Rennell Rodd in his stead. | |
