3 January 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 3rd January 1909. Went to morning service & asked Canon Ragg to give out a notice that I would give out work again tomorrow afternoon & wd receive money & materials. Mrs Merrick sent me 150 lire & others sent smaller sums. I went after church to see Angela who generally liked me to come Sunday morngs. I found her not in the best of humours– She wished I had come at 4. However she recovered & I told her all our work & she promised me some materials. After lunch Nora & I set to work at some shirts even tho’ it is Sunday we felt that no time is to be lost. Countess Albrizzi came to see me & to ask about our work & then promised to send over material tomorrow for shirts. I got the Arbib girl to come & carry away material of mattress’ to make at home. Dined at 7 & went with Baker to the Sailor’s Inst: service. There were a good many men there amongst them some officers of the Wilson line I knew. On my return Sigr Arbib came to tell me he had found a place where he could get me materials wholesale & promised to send them tomorrow. Nora & I worked again till bed time.
