17 March 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 17th [March 1909]. I went to San Daniele & took Css Valmarana with me– Home by 12 as there was little to do. The number of profughi is reduced to 92—the rest have been sent where they hope to settle. I went after lunch with Ola to the Hospital. Found poor Eram was unconscious & dying of a clot of blood to the brain. I had a talk with his wife who is in a queer hard state & talked of his death, will & funeral in a matter of fact way. Returned home at 5 to tea to entertain Lady de Ros, Lady E. Drummond & Sir Wm & Lady Mahon who are tourists of the season. At 9 p.m. I went to attend the meeting of the genl Committee of the Profughi—there were only the Valmarana, Papadopoli & Css del Buono there amongst the ladies. The meeting was held in the council room. Rather uninteresting business– Home soon after 10.
