28 March 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 28th [March 1909]. Went to morning service & to see Bss Reinelt afterwards. Bss Gagern lady in waiting to Pss Stephanie, & Mr Brown came to luncheon. The former has come to Venice to wait for the Pss & Ct Lonyay who are to come in their motor car. Afterwards I went to the Cos. Hos: to see Miss Chaffey who has just returned from her holiday in Eng. Then at 4.30 I went to the meeting of the Soy against l’Accationazzio at the Aleneo Veneto & found there several Italian ladies I knew. It was not very interesting to me—& I was only once amused when a gentleman made a highflown speech of condolence on the death of the mother of a gentleman of the committee present. His face was almost comic it became more & more “de circonstance” & he looked as tho’ he wd cry. This is a thing wh wd have been impossible in England.
