11 May 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 11th [May 1909]. We managed to find room for Nevil Gordon who came to join her father Ld Stanmore. There was a large party this evening at Pal. Mocenigo S. Stae to which we could not go as I received my own friends. It was a party to see an American girl dance the abominable “Salomé” dance so I am glad not to have gone to it. It was first big reception in the fine old Palazzo for the last 42 years: the family has begun to pick up a bit & the Palace has been lighted by electric light. Count Knesebeck, the German Empress grand chamberlain who happens to be in Venice came to dine delighted to see Da Laura & the Seckendorff party. Not many people in the eveng.
