25 May 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 25th [May 1909]. I had a visit from a lady who had known my brother Arthur very intimately a Mrs Nicolaus– She has the greatest admiration & veneration for him & knowing I was his favorite sister & we were so devoted to each other she had a great desire to see me. It was very touching. I imagine she had had a very good influence on him & is a very good woman. Lady Gregory had had an alarming telegram yesterday as to an accident to her son & determined to return to England this morng but she had very early a reassuring telegram & decided to stay. I am glad as she [is] far from well & the change is doing her good. We went over to see the Edens in their garden & to admire the last of the rose blossoms. In the evening a lot of people came—amongst them a Pss Thurn et Taxis & daughter, friends of Violets & sister in law of my late guest.
