2 June 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 2nd [June 1909]. Mervyn Herbert (secy at our Embassy at Rome) arrived to stay with me & came before breakfast. He is a charming youth—so fresh, happy & good natured. The Canon left me today & the place will know him no more. I went in the afternoon to take tea with dear little Css Giustina Valmarana & then went with her to the hospital to shew it to it. She took me in her gondola and I joined the rest of the party in the Piazza later & returned with them.
