28 July 1909 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 28th [July 1909]. I saw by appointment a Mrs Richardson introduced to me by Netta Bruce of Abbottabad. A lady who has taken up nursing—is well off & thinks of working in Italy– I told her of the Cosmopolitan Hospital in case we might ever want her there & she told me she thinks of going to work in Sicily. Anyhow we agreed to keep in touch & I told her our matron might want a rest & was glad of someone temporarily to take her place. I went to see Lady Humphery at 23 Bruton St. She has lately lost her husband—& now knows what sorrow is—but according to the new fashion she wears but little outward mourning. I persuaded her to come to dine with us tonight.
