2 August 1909 — Garry Hill, Bagenalstown, County Carlow
Monday. 2nd [August 1909]. Olwen arrived to stay a day or two & our little party is complete. The amusement of the day is putting together a picture puzzle cut up into many pieces. It is an idiotic pastime but curiously fascinating as one always wants to find one bit more & hates to be beaten– Onie & I worked at it together Blanche having brought one with her. It is said that at the guards’ club in London there is a large one always going on & that at country visits people spend hours over them & they are taking the place of “Bridge”. There is a shop in London where one can subscribe & change these puzzles as no one wants to keep them & they are useless when done.
