8 September 1909 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 8th [September 1909]. Nela accompanied me to the station to see me off to Venice by 11 o’cl train. Connie met me there. Edward had procured me a compartment to myself & I expected to have had Mrs Curtis & her friend Miss                with me—but they cd not find the carriage & got into another. However Baker & I found it & were very comfortable. The train was excessively full. We had a very calm crossing & Mrs Curtis joined me in my deck cabin. At Calais we found the train de luxe for Venice. At the station I saw Mrs Ross who said she was returning to her villa at Florence.
