5 October 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 5th [October 1909]. Typed– It is such a pleasure to be seeing Henry’s writing again. I shall be sorry when the letters are all copied. The letters are to Mr Ross at Samsoun when Henry was digging at Mosul & Bagdad. After lunch I went over to the Hospital & home to tea. Lady Helen Vincent & Mr James dined with me—& the latter played us some delightful old world music written for the Spinet. A good many people came in the evening, amongst them Mrs Harry Taylor in startling costume—big black velvet 3 cornered hat—clinging white satin gown & a blue damask cloak. She made a sensation– Such a pity! People asked if she was an actress.
