12 October 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 12th [October 1909]. Sister Chaffey came to see me before I got up—on her return from the station where she had seen a patient off by train. Mr Montalba called & we finished up the Hospital accounts. Mr Whitaker also came to see me—& Mr Price so that I had no quiet moment all the morning. Mr Price came to talk about the Sailor’s Institute as he is trying to get a manager for it. In the afternoon I went over the hospital to settle various little matters. Mr B. Fandell Phillips & Mr & Mrs Lorimer dined with me. A lot of people came to my evening reception—mostly travellers staying in Venice a little while. It is rather a fatiguing thing for me as they all have to be looked after & introduced to one another—but they like to wander round & look at the pictures & curios—& the electric light makes them quite easy to be seen at night.
