21 October 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 21st [October 1909]. The Bishop’s throat hurt him so he did not move out. I went with Alice after lunch to the Hospital to pay usual visit & came home to tea with the Bishop & afterwards Mrs Ledyard, Mr Whitaker & Css Czernin came in—the former & latter being only en tourist. Css S. is a daughter of Ld Grimthorpe, a pretty lively woman, here for a couple of weeks by herself—a new idea to me when a woman has a husband & young children. Corise & Nela went out in gondola after dinner. It is still very hot & like summer.
