28 October 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 28th [October 1909]. I took Olga out in the afternoon to the Hospital & also to Piazza & from there to the Grand Hotel where we had been invited to tea by Lady Pirbright. The old lady received us very kindly & gave us all kinds of good things to eat. She is very stout, wears a wig with golden curls– Her complexion carefully arranged & a set of gleaming teeth. Her pearls are wonderful. She is a clever linguist & talks very well– She frankly enjoys her immense fortune. Corise & Nela joined the party & besides Mrs Smith of Chicago & her niece were present.
