29 October 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 29th [October 1909]. Olga & I walked out in the morning to call on Mr Arbib in his charming villa on the Fondta Maleanton– It might be made lovely if properly arranged as it is surrounded by a large garden. He gave me a lot of odds & ends of beads to carry away to make chains of. I am always at work making & selling them for the benefit of the hospital & last year made 2000 lire from them. At 2 Signor Castellani came to see me bringing the list to revise of people to whom the medals are to be given for their help of the Messina refugees last winter. After lunch I walked with Sir Edwin Egerton to Mrs Curtis where we were invited to tea & met Lady Barlow. Thence we walked to the Grand Hotel to call on Lady Pirbright & so home. Lady P. leaves Venice tomorrow. The Egertons dined out. Hallam was not well & in bed so we were only us 4 women at dinner.
