2 January 1910 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Sunday. 2nd [January 1910]. We all walked to church in the morning. Edward read the lessons. Bertie sang in the choir. Typed the journals. After luncheon I took a walk with Blanche & her son Myles to the Home Farm & back. It was a hot muggy day making one feel lazy. I did not go to church again in the evening as Blanche & Edward did, but stayed in typed & wrote letters. Yesterday we heard of the death of young Lord Percy, son of the Duke of Northumberland—a real loss to the country as well as to his family. He was so clever & had the makings of a real good English statesman– He was out at Venice last spring staying with Lady Helen Vincent at Palazzo Giustinian where she has an apartment. He is one of the few people who take an interest in Assyriolgy amongst other things & had been Under Secy for F.A. He died at Paris of Pneumonia poor fellow. Lord Rodney is also dead—& there is an end of Corise’s former husband. Her boy just 18 is very young to have a title wh will add to his temptations in life. Tho’ Corise had divorced Lord R. some time ago, she will now feel more free to marry again should she be disposed to do so.
