10 April 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 10th [April 1910]. The Wyndhams left by the 7 a.m. train for Rome & I am quite alone again. I heard from Blanche that the 1st day’s sale of Monty’s things at Christie’s realized £5000. This is a great joy & we may now hope that the money may finally be forth coming to pay off his debt to Theodora & peace may be restored in the family. I went to morning service & afterwards paid Angela a visit only getting home for lunch time. Visit from Concetta Malagola & she went out with me in gondola to the Eden’s garden & Hospital. The man cook from Sicily turned up finally & I hope that now I may be able to entertain my friends properly. He is a smart looking clean little man—not too young, Sperianio. Lady Hilda Keppel & Miss Broderick came to see me at 6. They are going to stay some time in Venice. I dined at 7 & then walked with Baker to the Sailor’s Institute for the service. Mr Price walked part of the way home with us.
