11 April 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 11th [April 1910]. The papers from England today tell me that another £5000 was made at Christie’s on Saty at Monty’s sale. I am indeed glad that it goes so well. I lay in bed today till 10 to get a good rest after last week’s fatigues—but at 11 I went out in gondola to H. Daniele to find Lady Sybil Lascelles & to take her out shopping. Sir Frank was there also so we settled to walk & I sent the gondola away. We went to bead shops, jewellers &c on foot & at 1 o’cl I left them & went to Hotel Victoria to luncheon with Angela. At 2.30 I went to the Casa Arbib & he took me to his bead store & gave me a large parcel of beads to carry away with me– Thence I went to the Hospital & transacted business with the matron. Mrs Hills is still there & she came with me in the gondola home & there we separated. Mrs Curtis came & also Mrs Hoppin her American friend to see me & I invited them to come to dine tomorrow. I sent the gondola to the hospital to take the nurses out to hear the singing on the water & I went in a traghetto gondola to dine with the Whitakers. We did puzzles after dinner.
