17 April 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 17th [April 1910]. Foggy—showery day. We went to morning service & afterwards I went to see Angela Reinelt & there met Baron & Bss Ecconomo Trieste friends of hers. We arranged that they should lunch with me tomorrow. Lady Walsham came after lunch to bid me good bye as she is leaving Venice. Afterwards Louise Vivian went out in her gondola & I & Alexandra in mine. We met at Mr Edens garden & Louise brought the Dss of Roxburghe with her. The weather held up & so we were able to walk in the garden with Mr Eden & pick wallflowers, lilies of the valley & lilacs. At 5 we left Mr Eden & went over to the Hospital and the Matron gave us tea there which was very kind of her as she had a large party of her own friends up in her own apartment. Afterwards we went over the Hospital & then returned home. This morng post brought me letters to say that the Sale of Monty’s things at Christie’s had brought in over £20,000—so that if another £3000 is realized at the Brighton Sale we may hope that all the debts will be paid. Heard also that Daisy has been safely moved up in an ambulance to town from Ballards & was none the worse for it.
