18 April 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 18th [April 1910]. Mrs Greaves came here at 11 & I went with her & the Vivians to Rialto to look for seed pearls in the jewellers shops—but without success. However we went into a shop where the ladies bought the bright coloured binders for swaddling baby’s which are very pretty & took their fancy immensely. Baroness Reinelt & her friend B. & Bss Ecconomo & Ct & Css Elena Papadopoli lunched with us. At 3 the 2 Vivians went out in Mr Whitaker’s launch for the afternoon. Hilda Keppel & Miss Broderick came to see me to say that [they] have taken Mr Wood’s little house for a short time. Afterwards I went out in gondola to see Mme Noce & the Prices & then came home to tea. Later Mrs Eden, her niece Miss Cox & 2 gt nieces, Miss Hamersly & Campbell came to see us. Mrs Langenbach came to stay with me & arrived by 6.45 train. The Vivians went out in gondola after dinner & Mr L. & I sat & chatted. Sir Rennell Rodd writes to say he will arrive Friday morng. Recd a telegram from England to say Daisy is a shade better & no operation required. Letter from Edward saying he fears there will not be eno’ money from the sales of Montys things to pay all his debt to Theo. The Brighton sale is not expected to yield more than £3000. It is very depressing.
