9 May 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 9th [May 1910]. Mr Montalba came in the morning about Hospital accounts & Mr Price came to see about the memorial service to be held on the day of the King’s funeral. I went out at 11 with Mr Montalba walking to Hotel Victoria to visit Angela Reinelt & returned alone to lunch at 12.30 as the girls wanted to go afterwards to Torcello by steamer. Graf Finck von Finckenstein & his sister came to see me introduced by Hallam Murray, a funny little German brother & sister who were delighted to see the pictures & went round with the catalogue in hand– A Mr St John Charlton called introd by Miss Con Ffoulkes, also 3 elderly Miss Brookes—sisters of Stopford Brooke. When all were gone I went out in gondola. Called at H. Britannia on the proprietor asking him to help to find work for Creighton the convalescent at our Hospital. Went to Piazza & then home for 5 o’cl tea. Had a visit of condolences from Princess Clary about our King’s death this evening Pss Melanie Thurn et Taxis arrived from Florence at 9.40 to stay with me. She brings a good acct of Hallam Murrays restored health.
