14 May 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 14th May [1910]. When I woke at 7 the Poynters had already left for London. Breakfast at 9 downstairs. We have got bright weather at last & it is getting warmer. Princess Taxis had bad news of the health of a sister at Munich & was unhappy. Later she got reassuring telegram. After lunch I went to see Mrs Whitaker who has been ailing but is better. Then to see Angela Reinelt who has a sudden fit of gout. The 2 girls Betty & Elizabeth fetched me in gondola & we went to the Montalbas who had a large gathering being their “at home day.” At their door I met the 3 old Misses Brooke who were taking a walk so I took then in to the Montalbas with me & introduced them there. Meeting Alick Yorke there I prepared to take him over to the Giudecca to see our hospital—this I did & Mr Whitaker called there for him. He was delighted with the hospital & said he only knew of one so nice which was the English Hospital at Algiers. I brought the Malagolas over to the Zattere from the Hospital—picked up my girls & brought them home. We had a quiet evening making bead chains.
