13 July 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 13th [July 1910]. I walked round to Fondta Malcantone to the Arbibs to congratulate Bianca on her engagement to a man she met at Tripoli while on a visit to her sister Matilda. She is marrying an oriental Jew which is as it should be the Arbib’s having originally come from Egypt. Then I went off in gondola at 12.30 on board the “Semiramis” to lunch with Lord Anglesey & his sister Lady Ingestre. We had a table laid on deck wh was very pleasant & after lunch Lord A. played the pianola with great taste making that hateful instrument quite hearable. A thunderstorm came up & I had to hurry away but first accompanied Mr Asha (alias Scamp) to Piazza to pay a bill about which there was some dispute. After having 5 o’cl tea I went out again in gondola to the Piazza & thence walked home full of regret that I shall not be here tomorrow. I leave Venice very unwillingly each time I have to go even for a short time. In the eveng Lady Bonham & her 2 girls came in on a visit & also Malagola & his wife to bid me God speed.
