14 July 1910 — En route to Salsomaggiore
Thursday. 14th [July 1910]. I left Venice by 9.50 train for Bologna. There I was met by the Fraticello (Faccioli) & he remained with while I lunched at the Buffet & he saw me off again by train to Borgo San Dorino wh I reached at 4.30. A tram for Salsomaggiore was waiting there but I thought a carriage wd be a quicker mode of conveyance & Baker & I came in a little 1 horse shay with an awning. The country is not ugly but Salso seems a place in the low hills & is composed of monster hotels. I went to the “Centrale” where rooms were ordered for me—14 lire a day pension on 3rd. Dined at 7.30 in the big hall at table d’hôte each party at a separate table.
