10 September 1910 — Salce, Belluno
Saturday. 10th [September 1910]. Misty cold morning—left Villa Eden with great regret & drove down with Carry to Belluno & left by the 11 a.m. train for Venice. There was an intelligent young Italian who got into the train at Montebelluna with whom I had a little talk en route. He said he had just come back from Germany where he had been learning German. He knew French & intends going to England soon to learn the language. Got to Venice at 2.15. Giuseppe & gondolier met me—G. brought news of an accident wh had happened 4 days ago to Regina– She had run her arm against a knife & cut an artery—wh was attended to at our hospital & she was going on well– He said the new French woman cook had arrived today an hour ago. The weather was gloomy & it was windy—& it rained hard all the afternoon. I unpacked & arranged things—interviewed Mme Clementine Genieux the cook. Sympathised with poor Regina who had her arm in a sling. Dined at 8—played patience—to bed—lulled by sounds of pouring rain.
