3 October 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 3rd [October 1910]. After lunch went to Grand Hotel & took Lady Jersey & Lady Northcote out in gondola to the Eden’s garden. I had sent Giuseppe over to prepare tea for us & we sat in the shade of the arbour which over looks the Lagune & drank our tea & chatted, the ladies were delighted with the garden wh has a great charm, with its mixture of fruit, flowers & vegetables. Unfortunately there are not many flowers at this time of year—but the gardener gave us a large bunch of autumn roses to carry away. I took the ladies over to the hospital that they might have a peep into the garden which is pretty in the bright sunshine. I dropped them at their hotel & returned home by 5. There was a thick fog today in the morning & evening—& it was very hot.
