10 October 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 10th [October 1910]. Had interview with Dr Cavezzani about our Hospital & he gave advice on matters connected with our rules &c. At 12 went out in gondola with the Northcotes to the Piazza & thence walked to Pal. Barbaro & lunched with Mrs Curtis—met there Mr Huntingdon a former U.S. Consul now living at Florence & staying with Mr C. & Horatio Brown. On getting home at 3.15 found Mr Williamson waiting to carry off the Northcotes to shop & they went in his gondola. I went to the hospital to see Dr Tommasini & talk over what Dr Cavezzani had said to me & brought Nela & Eda home who were walking in the Eden’s garden & Eda read aloud to us for an hour before dinner Creighton’s Q. Elizabeth. After dinner Mr & Mrs Hillman & Mr Whitaker & his guests B & Bss Mayendorff & Mr Emerson came in & the latter sang to us. He has a fine voice badly trained. B. Mayendorff is Secy in the Russian Embassy in London a tall fair young man.
