15 December 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 15th [December 1910]. I had a bad headache but struggled to keep about & several people came in this morning so that I had little quiet. First came Dr de Caroles for whom I had to send to see the fat French woman cook who felt ill. The Dr came & sat heavily with me to pay me a visit—then came Concetta Malagola & then Sr Arbib who came to say that an old spinet he had offered to sell to Lord Kitchener for £30 turns out to be priceless—& what do I advise. He will not go back on his word to Lord K.—& leaves it to me to decide. I say there is time before March when Lord K. will be here to decide. After lunch I went out to the Piazza to see abt some chains sent to Athens to Pss Sophie’s lady in waiting in error. These people are very unbusiness like & aggravating. Returned & hid myself in my room to sleep & rest till dinner. Kind Mr Montalba paid me a short visit. Mr & Mrs Hillman & Cav. Castellani dined with me– I could not eat a mouthful but got better by the end of the evening. My guests amused themselves by doing a puzzle which the Cav. took to mightily.
