19 December 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 19th [December 1910]. Hurrah! Fine weather at last. After days of rain & fog & a pale sun visible only now & then it is delightful to see it bright & clear– We must hope that the storms & inundations which are doing so much harm all over Europe will now cease. This morning, Mr Montalba came to take over hospital money over a cup of black coffee as his wont. Also came Gioconda Hulton & Mr Latimer, Mrs Curtis’ nephew to arrange about acting a little play on Christmas Eve here. I went over to the Hospital after lunch & found the works of restoration in the interior nearly finished– Went to call on the German Consul’s wife to invite the Officers & Cadets of the German ship “Hertha” which is now in Venice, to come to my reception tomorrow eveng. Then went to see the Edens & had 5 o’cl tea with them & so home.
