23 December 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 23rd [December 1910]. A lovely sunrise when lo! the fog returned & got thicker & thicker & continued all day. Directly after lunch Concetta Malagola came & went out in gondola with me—we went over to the hospital to wish them all a Merry Christmas & found the place looking very nice & having decorations of green for the season. Did some shopping & returned home at 4. There was the church practice here of the choir after wh I gave tea. Mr Montalba called after 6 & I took him home in my gondola when I went out to dine with the Edens. A pleasant evening with the two alone. Fog continues & so steamers can’t run today. It was not very pleasant crossing the Giudecca in gondola today when going to Hospital.
