23 January 1911 — En route to Cairo
Monday. 23rd [January 1911]. We arrived at Alexandria & landed in a scene of tremendous confusion—shouting of natives fighting for our boxes & parcels. Luckily a Cooks agent came to our rescue & at length we found ourselves in a lady’s carriage & did the journey in peace arriving at Cairo at 9 p.m. We drove to Ghesireh Palace Hotel & dined & were greeted by Mrs Stainer an English resident of Venice who is here for the winter. She took us out to the English Club grounds opposite our hotel the next morning where there is a nice garden.
