30 March 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 30th [March 1911]. Mr Arbuthnot left us this morning by the luxe & all my guests are gone! Folco came to me at 11 & I showed him the house & pictures & he remained for lunch. He says he came here especially to ask my advice as to whether he should accept an offer from a rich Milanese to sell Varramista. I found it difficult to give advice. I fear he will regret to part with an old family place wh is so beautiful. I advised him to take 3 months to think of it. The price offered is tempting & he would like to put the money into a business being ambitious to work. Took Folco to see our hospital & returned here to tea meaning to go out again but heavy rain came on & prevented us—so we stayed talking & working at the puzzle & had a visit from Mr Montalba. Folco dined with us & took leave as he returns to Florence tomorrow.
