16 April 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 16th [April 1911]. Easter Day. To church in the morning a very large congregation. The church which seemed so large when we gave it for the English community is now small for the numbers that come when the hotels are full. Mr & Lady Margaret Nicholson lunched with us. She is a niece of Sophy Franqueville & a daughter of her sister Lady Waldegrave a nice little woman whose 1st husband was killed in the Boer war. At 4 went out with Eda to make Easter greetings at the Hospital & also to the Edens in their gardens. Hearing Mr Price had nearly fainted in church this morning I went to try & persuade him & his wife to come & stay with us for a rest & to be fed up. Home to tea & then took a walk with Eda to the Prices to ask for an answer to my proposal but they would not accept it. Home for dinner. Quiet eveng.
