17 April 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 17th [April 1911]. I went to morning service at 10.30. Happily there was a very small congregation for Mr Price so feeble he had to be helped by a layman (Mr Acland) up & down the chancel steps & the cup & pattern handed to him. His hand was cold & trembled as he officiated. I had a letter from Lord Kitchener today at last. He offers to give us seats for the Coronation procession & tells me he has completed the purchase of Broome. Mr Acland lunched with us. We had taken a prejudice against him at Khartoum but fine we were wrong. He has been so kind in helping Mr Price in all this week’s services & read the lesson every day. We made a tournée leaving cards on all the Venetian families I know & who expect this civility at Easter time–
