22 April 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 22nd [April 1911]. Angela Reinelt sent to beg me to go to see her this morng so I walked with Eda to Hotel Victoria at 11.30. Found her very weak & depressed having been very suffering. Walked on to the Piazza & home to lunch. Miss Chaffey came there. Afterwards had a visit from Mme Schiff an Austrian lady married to & separated from a Jew here. She is much interested in hospital work & I want to take her to the Cos: Hospital here. Started out with Eda in gondola directly Mme Schiff left to call for Css Valmarana & her daughter to take them over to the hospital to see it. After dropping them at their house in San Vio went to tea party at Mrs Curtis at Pal. Barbaro where I found a good many people assembled at tea. These entertainments at this season when the weather is such that one likes to be out of doors & enjoy it are a trial to me—but noblesse oblige & I go sometimes. Went to see Marchesa [illegible word] a nice little old Russian & then home & wrote letters. Mr & Lady Margaret Nicholson & Cecil Whitaker dined with us—& Mr Gardener & his two tall sons came in the eveng also Mrs Whitaker. She brought a pretty Mrs Kennard & her husband. Lit up all the electric light & showed off the pictures.
