21 October 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 21st [October 1911]. Da Laura Minghetti arrived from Bologna to stay with me by the 1.50 from Bologna. Sir Edwin went to the station to meet her & she says that he gave her a hearty kiss on the platform when she alighted. After the 1st greetings & a cup of coffee I took her upstairs to her bedroom to rest altho’ she declared that the journey had been such a short one that she was not the least tired. During the time she was in her room I went out with Lady Egerton. We called at the hospital to enquire after old Luigi the cook who had an operation for removing one of his eyes. He has suffered so long but he could not submit till now to have it done, but at last he has been persuaded to it. In the evening Lady Egerton took the 4 girls Nela, Eda, Daphne Darley & Winifred Gore to the “Matrimonio Segreto” by Cimarosa wh was given at the Malibran Theatre. Sir Edwin went off to his room to rest & I & Donna Laura had a quiet evening together & a game of double patience. She is a wonderful person being abt 82 & still full of life only a little deaf.
