28 October 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 28th October [1911]. After lunch went out in gondola with Da Laura, Olga Egerton & Daphne Darley to the Eden’s garden & then took Da Laura over the hospital with which she was delighted. The little house is really very attractive—so bright, so clean, & arranged with so much taste by our dear matron Miss Edith Chaffey. In every room whether occupied or not there are flowers & dainty colouring. We came home to tea & Sir Charles & Lady Holroyd came to call being here for a few days. Later Olga & I went out again in gondola to leave some cards. This morning Lady W. Gore (Betsy) left by the train de luxe for London, having paid me a long visit. She is a pretty child, evidently rather spoilt & somewhat affected, but with tears in her eyes she told me how happy she had been & thanked me & said her stay had opened out a larger horizon in life to her.
