4 November 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 4th [November 1911]. Folco carried off Da Laura to our great regret. She had been such a delightful companion full of fun & spirits & up to every thing. No one wd imagine at hearing her that she is 83. She played a game of patience for 2 every evening & took the greatest interest in it. Reads her Italian papers & is keen about the present war & is aghast at the criticisms thereon in our English papers. Before lunch Olga & I went to see Sigr Arbib at his Villa Belantis in Malcantone. He tells us he is in treaty to sell it & the large garden will be cut up & built over. The girls lunched with the Whitakers so Olga Egerton had a quiet lunch at home. Mrs Eden came to see us, having just returned from Belluno. Olga & I went to the Piazza to shop. Hugh Whitaker & his mother dined with us.
